Sugar Glider enthusiastic and owners use a few abbreviations to communicate with each other and to write in the forums. Below are the most used abbreviations:
- OOP - out of pouch
- IP - in pouch
- WF - white face, glider has no black bars under the ears making the face white. There can be WFB (blondes), WFC (cinnamons), WFL (lions) etc ...
- WFB - white face blonde
- WFG - white face grey
- WFC - white face cinnamon
- WFL - white face lion
- Cin or Cinnie - cinnamon
- BB - black beauty
- WT - white tip (on tail)
- Plat - platinum
- BEW - Black eyed white
- Leu - leucistic (also known as BEW)
- Leucistic (BEW) - black eyed white glider. Glider that is all white with black eyes.
- ALB - Albino - lacking pigment. All white with pink eyes.
- BML - Bourbon's Modified Leadbeaters (diet)
- PML - Pocket's Modified Leadbeaters (diet)
- Het - Heterozygous (means they carry the gene for but do not express certain characteristics). "Hets" are normal colored gliders that carry the gene for a certain color variation. That means that even though they don't display the coloration, they may have the ability to produce it. The various % of hets is in reference to the possibility of them actually carrying the gene.
- UA - urinalysis checks for internal bacteria and parasites as well as crystals or blood in the urine.
- UA with C & S - urinalysis with culture and sensitivity tests.
- UTI - urinary tract infection
- SM - self mutilation, a situation where a glider inflicts injuries on itself which can lead to serious injury or death.
- Ca:P - Calcium:Phosphorous (Ca:Ph) used to indicate the Calcium/Phosphorous ratio, to be properly managed in sugar glider diets.
